When predicting products, the type of reaction should be recognized first.
The type of reactions are : synthesis, decomposition, single replacement, double replacement, and combustion.

Predicting Products
In a single replacement reaction, a metal will replace another according the Activity Series of Metals:
Li
K
Ca
Na
Mg
Al
Zn
Fe
Pb
(H)
Cu
Hg
Ag
Au
Balancing Equations
There are six rules to balancing equations.
1 : Find the correct formula and physical state.
2. Write equation with reactants on the left and products on the right.
3. Count the atoms for the reactants and products.
4. Balance the equation using coefficients. Never change subscripts.
5. Make sure the atoms and poly-atomic ions are balanced.
6. Check coefficients for the lowest possible ratio.
